DISK MIRROR can be used to replace one device with another device, after which the mirror can be broken discarding the original device and retaining the new one. The old file can then be deleted. There is no CREATE or ALTER step involved, because the database's usage of the new device is exactly the same as it was on the old device, the DISK MIRROR command has taken care of all the details.
